Objective
- Build awareness among low income families of fire dangers and how they protect their families and property.
Background
An EMS Training Division in a major metropolitan city has an “awareness campaign” several times a year. They go from door to door in lower income communities and make residence aware of the dangers of not having fire safety equipment in their home or apartment.
With low income families, probably one of the last things they think about is a smoke alarm. The dangers of not having a smoke/fire alarm can be deadly and this is what the EMS team is trying to get across.
Program
They then hand out a piece of safety equipment. In this case, the team will be handing out the Kidde Basic Smoke/Fire Alarm, model 914, to the community.
Results
20,000 Kidde smoke/fire alarms were handed out. That equates to 20,000 safer households.
Each one of you has fire departments and/or EMS in your area. This is a great idea and perfect opportunity for you to present to them before the October Fire Prevention month.
