People are what make a company awesome
We may find ways to reduce head count but we could never run a company without people. For better or worse people are what make a company awesome or die a slow and painful death. It's easy to sit down with a coworker on a bad day but when you have hundreds or thousands of employees you need a more systematic way to make each person feel significant. What does it cost you to have unhappy employees?
- An HR study estimated that it costs $3,500 to replace one $8 per-hour employee when all expenses are taken into account. Costs escalate quickly for more qualified workers. Up to 150 percent for mid-level employees and up to 400 percent for specialized or high level employees.
- Employee motivation, satisfaction and engagement are directly linked to customer satisfaction, loyalty and engagement - all of which are directly linked to profitability. A Fortune magazine study of stock performance of the "100 Best Companies to Work For" between 1998 and 2005 found that companies with engaged employees returned 14 percent per year on each dollar invested, while the overall market return was only 6 percent per year.
How Do You Create More Engaged Employees?
Always remember that a program is most effective if it has clear and obtainable goals. A safety program's goal is to reduce accidents by training and recognizing employees for correct behavior. This should be seen as totally separate from service award program which rewards employees for committing their livelihood to your company.
