All-Aboard Carolina Vinegar Barbeque Sauce

I call this "all aboard" because it seems like elements of all the vinegar barbecue sauce recipes ever thought up can be found in this recipe, which is both vinegar-based, tomato-based, and mustard-based.

The splash of white wine gives it a flavor that you don't find in other vinegar barbecue sauce recipes. And if you can find it, add the liquid smoke. It gives this recipe a whole different dimension.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 Cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 Cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 Cup yellow mustard
  • 2/3 Cup ketchup
  • 1 Tbs freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 Tbs red pepper flakes
  • 1-2 Tbs salt, to taste
  • 2 Cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 1/3 Cup filtered water
  • 2/3 Cup white wine
  • 1/2. Tsp liquid smoke 

Directions

  1. In a medium sized saucepan, combine all ingredients. Bring to a boil. 
  2. Reduce heat to low and cover. Simmer, stirring occasionally, about 30 minutes.
